Kariba and Hwange Packages - 10 Days

Kariba and Hwange packages includes Mana Pools. Mana Pools National is one of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Zimbabwe. Covering an area of 848 sq meters, Mana Pools extend from the Zambezi River to the escarpment. It’s a timeless wilderness, a jewel of Zimbabwe’s National Park and there is much to see on Hwange and Kariba Packages.

The Zambezi River, shared between the Zambezi National Park in Zambia and the Mana Pools, flows eastwards. But it has left behind the remains of the old river channels forming ponds and pools. In turn this unique landscape attracts much wildlife for the size of the Park. Thousands of zebra, kudus, eland, impala, and other species of antelopes. The more the grazers the more the carnivores and the scavengers. Lions, leopards, hyenas and painted dogs are found here.

Along the river bank there is greatest varieties of bird life in the world. More than 380 species of birds including the goliath herons, Egyptian and Spurwing geese, cormorants and stocks, the colorful bee-eaters etc.

Kariba and Hwange Packages: Victoria Falls

Kariba has a different scene but very attractive. The dam and the lake draws wildlife all around the town and surrounding areas. You can go on a game drive along the coast, or just view game from a houseboat. Fishing in the lake/dam is a favorite sport as well as bird watching. Kariba is home to the ferocious Tiger fish and the bream. Hippos and crocodiles become so common sight everyday. It is the courage of the locals here that might surprise many how they manage to navigate the dangerous but calm waters of Kariba.

Back to Livingstone and Victoria Falls will take everyone’s breath away. Beyond the waterfalls as mighty and big as it is there is existence of a vibrate community from either side. The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park has rhinos and antelopes and so are huge herds of elephants just like across the river. Livingstone Island has a unique pool just meters from the depression of the falls that will plunge for 100 meters. The Devils Pool is one of its kind, a true adventure that is highly adrenaline but completely safe.

Hwange national park is probably the best for elephants, buffalo and giraffe sightings with the big cats lions and leopards in the mix. Livingstone is Zambia’s most visited destination with a chance to experience the culture and the people of Africa. You sign out your safari in Kariba where you get to go on safari in the lake and also a game drives.

Jour 1
Hwange National Park

We have all day Game drive in Hwange national park. Hwange national park is Zimbabwe’s biggest national park covering 14 651 sq km. It is home to the large herds of elephants and buffaloes in the region along side the big cats like lions and leopards The park has also over 450 species of birds. The game drive will be on 4×4 open safari vehicles for better view and photographing. Accommodation: Victoria Shearwater Village

Jour 2
Victoria Falls

Today we spend the day on one of Africa’s most visited place the Victoria Falls. Its the natural wonder of the World with a curtain of waterfalls a sheer 1 700 metres and splashing to a depth of 108 metres. The exuberant art of nature here is above board and indeed will take one’s breath away. There is much more to do in the small town of Victoria Falls as a world class tourist destination. You have a choice of helicopter flights above the Falls, bungee jumping, bridge swing, sunset cruise even whitewater rafting in the Zambezi river. Its the adventure zone of Africa. Chobe National Park

We head to Kazungula border post today as we make our way into Botswana. Botswana is a landlocked country bordering South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The country is 581 730 sq km with just a population of over 2 million people. The vast of the area being covered by the Kalahari desert and the Okavango Delta. It is one of the best country in the Southern region for game drives especially in Chobe national park which is one of its prime national park. The Chobe river flows past the national park before converging with the Zambezi river just at the border of the four countries Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Today we explore the Chobe national park from the land during 4×4 game drives and game viewing from the boat on the cruise. Accommodation: Victoria Falls Shearwater Village

Livingstone

We make our away to Livingstone today just past the Victoria Falls bridge which separates the 2 countries Zambia and Zimbabwe. We have a day for our cultural tour in the small town of Livingstone as we get closer to understand the people of the region. later in the day we visit the Livingstone island and have a chance to swim in the Devil’s pool just 3 metres from the gorge, definitely not for the faint-hearted. Zambia on the other hand is land of the peaceful people . Its 752 618 sq km in size with a population of 18 million people. Rich in natural reserves of copper and coal the country is also thriving on tourism with Livingstone being most visited too. Accommodation: Jolly Boys Livingstone

Jour 5
Livingstone to Kariba

Today we drive through Zambia for 500 km as we make our way to Kariba. Again lake Kariba is shared by the two nations here and like the in Victoria Falls bridge the bridge here separates the 2 two countries. As we cross over to Zimbabwe we take time to tour the bridge understanding the history behind the construction of the World’s biggest man-made lakes. Accommodation: Lake view

Jour 6
Kariba

Lake Kariba is the World’s largest man-made lake and reservoir by volume. The Kariba dam stands out 128 metres tall and 579 metres long on the Kariba gorge of the Zambezi river basin. The dam forms part of the lake which extends for about 280 km and holds 185 cubic metres of water. Today we have our day in the lake Kariba on boat cruise as we view game from the lake. We have a chance to go on overnight house boat. Relaxing in the lake watching the stars from the lake would be a great way to spend the night. In a way call it a night safari. Jour 7
Mana Pools

On our return back to Kariba Town, just after having breakfast on sunrise on the boat cruise, we offload our overnight gear and get back to our lodge. After lunch we head to Mana Pools National Park just 100 km from Kariba. It is an hours drive. After check in at our camp we go on a sunset game drive in the national park. Accommodation: Mana Pools

Mana Pools

Mana Pools National Park. In the morning just before sunrise you’ll go on a walking safari. Its a perfect timing for birding. When you come back you have breakfast before you go for a game drive until midday. In the afternoon you go on canoe paddling down and around the islands viewing safari from the boat. This is exclusive experience of the Mana Pools and Lower Zambezi. Accommodation: Mana Pools

Jour 9
Mana Pools

Each day in Mana Pools, you’ll explore different inland river beds, pans and open plains of the National Park by game drive and guided walks with your armed, professional guide, well off the beaten track. You’re likely to see hippo, crocodile, lion, wild dog, leopard, hyena, elephant, buffalo, waterbuck and many other antelope. You may also have the option to go game viewing by canoe, which involves light paddling for about 8 hours along the shoreline. Canoeing is very popular in Mana as it adds a totally different perspective to your game viewing.

Lusaka

From Mana Pools in the morning after breakfast, we leave for Lusaka Zambia. The drive is shortly under 300 km and we should be there in the afternoon. Check in at your accommodation in Lusaka and have a relaxed afternoon. Usually the Tour ends here as you await your flight. There is Lusaka City Tour that can be arranged by local Guides here if you still have time.

How fit do I need to be for this Tour?

You don’t need to. Anyone can go on this tour and all age groups are welcome. However you just need to be able to walk on rocky surface for just about 2 km. For the mokoro canoeing you just need basic swimming skills.

What is the climate?

The climate varies seasonally as you travel through the region. Summer months are generally wet and hot. But rainfall here is very low in the Kalahari desert. Day temperatures can go as high above 36 degrees while nights can be still above 22 degrees. Winter months warm by day but mostly cool to cold overnight. Summer is from September to February. Winter from March to August.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes on most of the lodges here we have charging ports as well as hot showers.

Are there ATMs on the way?

There are no functional ATMs in Victoria Falls its good to carry some cash with you. However payments can be done using Visa and Master cards. In Livingstone and Lusaka the ATMs are available.

What about internet access?

Internet will be accessible on the lodges reception site mostly. When on game drives and travelling there won’t be connection.
